Legend has it that local fisherman frequently gathered in this area to clean their day's catch and that the Southern stingrays (Dasyatis americana) eventually gathered to feast on the offal from the cleaning. Soon the rays began to associated the sound of a boat engine with a free meal. Now, the location is a popular tourist spot for waders and snorkelers to interact with the stingrays.
